Books and writing are capable of changing the entire world, of modifying human consciousness. You are modifying the consciousness of the reader and, therefore, you are modifying the reality of the reader.

Bruh.
Bruh.
This Alan Moore video about his philosophy on writing had me up two hours last night thinking about… well, a lot. One of those things was the power of the written word, as shown by the quote above pulled from the video.
That quote got me thinking about this Substack. About my post called Once More Into The Fray back in August 2023 which detailed my need to disappear from the world and return to my path as an author. And thinking about my return as an author got me thinking about my true beginning on that path.
See, for the longest time, I thought March 2018 was the beginning of my author career.
It wasn’t.
March 2018-August 2023 was the beginning of becoming an author—my college years, so to speak. These were my years of finding and honing my voice, my style, by writing anything and everything, damn the fucking rules. Nevertheless, a lot happened in my life outside of writing during this time. And, though I wasn’t aware of it at the time, this life experience would be the final nudge I needed to truly begin my path as an author from…
…September 2023 and onwards
If you’ve been with me since the inception of this Substack, you’ll know that my content before those dates was… ok. Out of dozens of posts, there are probably only two or three that I’m truly happy with—that I created because I had something worthwhile to say instead of creating something because I was a slave to the content-creating machine.
Post-September 2023, though… things started to get interesting. Why? It’s because I started forming…
…My unique way of viewing the world
You need to develop a way of seeing the world that is unique to you. That can only come from your experience and your perceptions. And that is the basis that you can then turn into an energy that will fuel the rest of your writing career. But the first thing is to develop that self. The writer as a person. The writer that is you, yourself.
— Alan Moore
How do I view the world?
Very differently from your average Joe. But, that answer doesn’t really answer anything that you can take away, does it?
No.
I think the better question to ask is, “What have I explored in my Substack so far?”
I’ve explored the limits of the human mind and the potential every human being is capable of. I’ve challenged social norms and have reminded ya’ll time and time again that anything and everything is possible so long as you alter your prescriptive lens.
The human mind.
Potential.
These are topics I haven’t just explored in my Substack but in my stories. In particular, Sanse and Netzii’s stories and a future story I have planned. But, I’m getting ahead of myself. The time will come when I get to let the genie out of the bottle.
Final words
Books and writing are capable of changing the entire world, of modifying human consciousness. You are modifying the consciousness of the reader and, therefore, you are modifying the reality of the reader.
— Alan Moore
“You are modifying the reality of the reader.”
At the risk of sounding egotistical… I think I’ve started to do that since the true beginning of my author journey. Sure, sure, in my Substack, I can only modify a fraction of a reader’s reality, but, with my fiction…
Your mind after reading my books:
Anyway.
Anyway.
Is that too grandiose of me to say? Too bold? Too confident in my skin and way of being? Too hot for you?
Hot?
Is it getting hot in here? Have I orbited too close to the sun? To the stars?
Stars?
What are we if not stardust floating in this dark and endless void we call life?
Life?
Perchance, have I lived?
Have you?
For it is easy to live with eyes closed, forever safe, forever numb, regret slowly festering year after year.
Nay.
Nay!
I must wake. I must live, forever enduring life’s tribulations year after year.
Yes, come what may!
Be what may!
For a life worth living one must take up arms against a sea of…
…
..
.
You reading through my burst of poetic prose:
Me:
Anyway.
Anyway.
Usually, I end my posts on a positive note but this time Imma act like a Mexican dad expecting their third child and…
P.S. Right. Right. Totally forgot to link that Alan Moore video. Here. Enjoy.
